Time is a weapon it plays by no rules
The ally of youngsters it plays them for fools
They use it unwisely no thought in their mind
Of how quickly it passes as they leave it behind.
It is the young mans weapon of choice
With unbounded energy he raises his voice
He forges his way with youth on his side
He outlasts his mentor while matching his stride.
If shallow the psyche the greater the pain
As that which came easy becomes harder to gain
As joints start to stiffen and movement is labored
Time tightens its grip; it is time that is favored.
It devastates women for beauty is fleeting
Unseen and unwanted senescence, the meeting
Like a beast in the jungle that devours its young
Time will replace you though you’ve only begun.
Tread lightly your footsteps while making your way
Regardless of status it can’t be delayed
Whether rich man or poor man the day it will come
When penance is bygone and your day will be done.
So live life with thoughts of your future in mind
Not earthly pleasures but the eternal kind
For when time overtakes you and youth has been eaten
You will be raised unto God—
Then time you have beaten.
